Kamau Brathwaite (Barbados) is one of the Caribbean’s most prominent and distinctive poets. He has written history, literary criticism and poetry. He recently won the 2013 Frank Collymore Literary Endowment (FCLE) awards in Barbados. Brathwaite has won several international awards, including the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1994 and the Griffin Poetry Prize in 2006. ‘The Lazarus Poems’, won the Collymore award. Other recent collections include ‘Born to slow horses’ (2006) and ‘Elegguas’ (2010).
